One of the nice things about this attraction is they have actually added some explanations in English which allows a non Japanese visitor the opportunity of understanding the history of the building as well as some of people involved in its history. There is also a good english pamphlet.Also nice little tearoom with a good selection.

A good walk through that gave us a sense of the British history in the area that dates from 1859. Rooms to see included the Consuls office, the Living room and a room exhibiting a comprehensive history of Hakodate port. You can also have an English Tea in the restaurant area

We enjoyed the high tea available at the tea shop. We also enjoy the gift shop and the goods which it has for sale. A bit of "Old England" in Hokkaido.

Charming old house and gardens. Lots of info in English and well worth a visit. Part of it has been converted to a tea room...you could be in Harrogate!

We read that the museum was ho-hum so we skipped it. We did stop for tea in the Victorian Rose Room, which has quite a bit of deferred maintenance but it's clean and it was fun to enjoy English tea, finger sandwiches (egg salad and potato salad/potato salad) and cake, cookies and scones. You're going to see a lot of peeling and faded paint in Hakodate but it's a fun one-day visit -with great sea air - on the way to Sapporo.

A bit surprise to see this is better than what we thought. We like the idea of the paint map on the floor at the end. There also have a small coffee shop to sit and relax. Staff are lovely and at this place you also can see a good view of Hagodate. I suggest to buy the 4 in one ticket from the old ward, that include old ward, old British consulate and 2 musuems. It is worth to see all.

旧イギリス領事館の中にある、ティールームとお土産屋さんは入館料無しで入れます。ティールームはアフタヌーンティーセットが一人1500円で楽しめます。紅茶数種類の中から一つ選べ、サンドイッチにケーキ2種類とスコーンで優雅なティータイムになります。

旧公会堂とチケットがセットになり、いくらか安くなるので見学してみました。当時のハイカラな生活が少し展示されています。すぐ、見終わってしまいますが、中のカフェでちょっと休憩。イギリスの紅茶が頂けます。

旧公会堂の下手に位置し、共通券が出ています。１Fに小さなティールームがありアフタヌーンティーができます。庭も回れます。バラは時期は過ぎていましたが一周してみました。執務室に領事のレプリカがいてけっこう小柄でした。撮影OKです。

領事館に立ち寄ると、開港時から掲げられているという”ユニオンジャック”が掲揚されていた。門をくぐって、まず最初に「イングリッシュガーデン」が見られるものと思って庭に回ってみた。領事館が出来てから何回かの火災にあって、大正２年に今の様式になってから、函館市の有形文化財に指定され今の建物となっているとのことですが、期待したイングリッシュガーデンの姿はなく、「コテージガーデン」のそれを感じました。　花を愛する人の息づかいを感じる庭園を楽しんできました。

綺麗な庭園に囲まれていて落ち着いた雰囲気がありました。近くには旧函館区公会堂や八幡坂などがあるので、それらと一緒にコース観光すると良いですね。

公会堂との共通券ではいりました。公会堂よりは見所が少ないけれどそれなりに楽しめました。アフタヌーンティは雰囲気楽しめました。味は、普通?スコーンがクロテッドクリームじゃなくて普通のジャムだったのがとにかく残念でした。。ローズティがとてもおいしく満足できました。

物産館もあり、イギリスと函館のつながりが感じられます。坂が急なので気をつけて２階は有料なので注意が必要です。

2施設共通券を使って入場。個別に買うより少しお得に入場出来ました。建物は英国風で窓から臨む景色は綺麗でした。公会堂から近くにあるので近くに立ち寄った際は入場されることをお勧めします。雰囲気は神戸の北野似ています。
