Went for an early morning trek on the Puponga Trail and this was a truly amazing experience. My horse was perfect for me being a novice and my wife had a horse suited to her experienced ability. The views were spectacular and our guide was friendly. I would highly recommend taking a trek with these guys!

This was the second excursion with Cape Farewell Horse Treks my partner and I have done. This time we did the Wharariki Beach trek and we were not disappointed. Wade, our guide was very experienced and really made the tour exciting. The scenery was exceptional and the highlight for me was cantering on the beach - even though I hung on for dear life. I would highly recommend this company to beginners or experienced riders as it seems they are very flexible in tailoring treks to suit. We will be back again next year to try out some of the other treks.

My husband and I took the trip on horseback to Wharariki Beach. Afterwards, I could not walk for a week but thankfully we were at the end of our visit to New Zealand so I had a 14 hour airplane ride to rest my legs. Wharariki Beach is not to be missed; whether you go on foot or on horseback. We did both. The guides were fantastic. The horses were generally well behaved and it was a great way to spend a morning. My biggest complaint is the amount of time spent riding on the road from the stables to the beach trail. This was quickly forgotten though when we started climbing the hill to the beach. Everywhere you turn in New Zealand, beautiful views abound. Wharariki Beach is no exception.

HiWe went on a 2hr horse trek as part of our South Island adventure holiday. What a stunning part of the country and a great way to see it on horseback. I have done a lot of horse treks in my 40 years but this was one of the best.Quite expensive but worth it. Friendly and helpful staff and our guide Wade was fantastic! Highly recommended.Vanessa

My son and I joined the trek to Puponga beach. We are experienced riders but chose this trek because we were with beginners. Sometimes being in a big group who are just walking can be disappointing but not in this case. The scenery was stunning, the variety of terrain was excellent (along a road, through water, on the beach and finishing up on farm tracks) and an extra guide went with the group to give us the opportunity to canter along the beach. Even without the canter we were happy. We were also impressed that some first time riders were given a chance to trot.Unfortunately I couldn't make time to also join the Wharariki Beach ride and Old Man's range, but both are something I hope to return to do!

Surely of the most stunning rides imaginable - panoramic views, challenging (but completely doable) riding, lovely (healthy and happy) horses and an excellent guide. Our equine experience level ranged from almost none to very, and both had a fab time.

I've only ever been on a horse once before and didn't enjoy the experience as he was easily spooked. Thanks to the lovely ladies here my confidence grew a little this morning. I wasn't made to feel silly because I wanted to mount from the stump and was reassured throughout the trek. I certainly didn't feel as if I was left to figure things out for myself. We were well looked after on roads and reminded of how to approach ascents and descents. I was definitely apprehensive at the start but started to relax by the end of the 1.5 hour trek.

The three hour trek including wild white sand beach had me relaxed, happy, thrilled, peaceful, energized and thoughtful in swings throughout. The scenery is utterly amazing, something you can't appreciate by car... A wonderful experience.

We recently did the Puponga beach horse trek ( 2 adults and 2 teenagers).it was an amazing experience. A combination of famland , beach, estuary and uphill and even a bit of trotting. Our teenage boys loved it. The guides were friendly and informative and also relaxed and trusted our group to control the horses on the beach and allowed those in the group to trot of they wanted to. Even though our trek was supposed to be 1 and a half hours ....from start to finish we were out for 2 hours 15 mins so great value for money. A thoroughly memorable and fun trip out for the family - we would all highly recommend it.

Me and my partner, both beginners, had an amazing experience.Never sat on a horse before and it was really scary at first. The guide was good and friendly.Started off slow, learning to control the horse, soon we were walking in the bushes and over lush green hills with views that will take your breath away.Going uphill and downhill with a horse was awesome. My horse in particular was scared going downhill and seems to take it slow.Went through bushes, over hills, on the beach, through a small cave, across a river and back to base through a different route through dense bushes and over a different hill with even better views of the farewell spit.Cons: had a sore back, knees and thighs the next day, but totally worth it :)

We had a wonderful ride on Boxing day, we did the Old man range trek, what fantastic views, simply stunning. We were a party of 4, myself and friend, we both have owned horses in the past but were very rusty, her 14 yr old daughter who rides regularly and 11 yr old son who has limited riding skills. We were perfectly matched with the horses, beautiful well mannered Standard breds. Our guide, Gail was brilliant, we were able to have several canters and she looked after and encouraged Fynn, who was quite nervous to begin with, he loved it and even had a canter. The ride was supposed to be 2.5hrs but we were out for 3 hrs, no rushing to get back. Gail pointed out lots of points of interest and obviously has a great passion for the horses and the local area and wants you to enjoy it too, which we certainly did. Being in the saddle for so long after not riding for many years, took it's toll on us older riders but was well worth it! We will be going again in the future and would have no hesitation in recommending it to others.

We tried Wharariki beach ride (3h).on the way to the beach they took us to the hill tops surrounded by sheeps- absolutely breath taking. One of the best view in my life.Hills of green, white dots of sheeps and blue ocean all in once from back of the horse!!My partner was a beginner but had no problem going around with kind and professional guide's support.Highly recommend!!!

We did a 1.5 hour trek early in the morning so we could ride on the beach. Our guide was awesome and a really nice guy and that made the experience even better. The horses were great and the views were magic. Cannot recommend enough.
