Me and my husband enjoyed our stroll and seeing the flowing river and enjoying the sight of Peter & paul fortress. You can enjoy best view at night.

Enhanced by the Glory of the palaces and buildings from eras gone by encompassing some dynamic architecture to the humble fishermen along the banks this area needs to be witnessed and strolled along. If you have the weather and time do not miss. Just as outstanding are the bridges, churches, Submarine C-189, Hermitage, and on and on..... With illumination at night it is just as spectacular in an awesome way.

walking along the Neva enbankment is a real experience on a freezing january day, but it is worth doing it. You can enjoy view of Peter and Paul Fortress, Hermitage, St. Isaacs Cathedral and many other sights. But if you are looking for Aurora cruiser, calm down. You will not find it on it's traditional location as it was towed to docks to be repaired and will not be back till the end of 2015 or even later...

I don't understand the rating system in which streets become a worthwhile attraction when in reality, you only stroll them to see the beautiful sights around. It's not like these embankments are paved with gold! And in the winter, it's not a pleasant walk whatsoever. Maybe in the summer this would score more highly but even then, I'd review the boat trip you take around the city and not the embankment itself!

Although I would never walk the embankment from the Hermitage to the P&P Fortress again,I would happily take another boat ride on the Neva. There are many different ones available, as I couldn't figure out one over another, I went with the first person who approached me in the Place Square, and I was not disappointed. The boat was covered and had a place to sit and either eat or have a beer, I did both, and it did not seem expensive, nor did the boat ride itself. I was both pleased with the length of the trip, and how huge the Neva is. This was fun!

Come at night with the game of coloured lights on bridges, and during day time when the sun is rising. The Neva is at that time at its best

We arrived just before christmas and the river was flowing freely, the next day we could see ice forming and floating down the river, by the end of our 5 day visit the river was frozen solid and white, amazing site, and if your visiting in winter this is a must see. I believe that this river " the venice of the north" would be a must see no matter what the season is

You can feel as though you've been sent back in time a hundred or more years when standing and walking alongside the Neva River. Take your time admiring the impressive architecture that has been painstakingly rebuilt, restored and constantly maintained since the fall of the USSR.

The embankments offer stunning views of some of the best building in the city. It's worth walking along both sides of the river to see the different views.

There are so many interesting stories, buildings, places and restaurants along waterways, both river and canal ones. The sent combination seems walking and sailing.

We have seen so much on TV and films about Russia, the revolution and communism but seeing it for real is amazing. History, Architecture, Wealth, contrasting over years, decades, centuries with the bleakness of communism. The legacy of both visible and living on. Overall a fantastic experience.

A boat ride on the Neva River is very popular and touristy but well worth it for the views and to just drift through the canals around the city centre.

We left the Hermitage, walked across the street and boarded a ferry. It took us to and from Peterhof. The boat system was continuously running and boats were pulling in and out every few minutes. The Neva River was pleasant and home to a diverse shipping industry. There were small freighters, and private boatss prowling on the river. There was even one medium sized cruise ship docked almost in the middle of the city. Our much larger ship was docked outside the city. It was an enjoyable experience.
