the influenced each other back and forth, and the prime of their art, the 1. World War took them away from their art, WHat a shame

The building itself is interesting and well worth looking at, but the thing to see is the room with paintings by Macke, a friend of Klee and member of the Rhine expressionists, sadly killed in WW1.His art is colourful and full of joy, with themes like children in the garden, circus visits, a voyage to Tunisia with Klee...There is also a room of Beuys works, if you like him and lots of other modern works, some attractive, others frankly not, however, all in all, well worth a visit.

Coming to Kunst Gallery you are greeted with some very good architecture from outside, coming to view the gallery for the price of €7 a ticket, I felt the quantity and breadth of art was slightly lacking. The place is huge and we were forewarned that they were in between changing galleries, but when I think of all the galleries I've seen across Europe, I just felt it wasn't quite enough, not for a place like Bonn. However, the quality of the art whether modern or August Macke's art was really interesting to see. Also to note if the gallery was that small, why not team up and offer half price to the gallery that's opposite?

Art is always subjective and it's no question that one either dislikes or likes certain paintings and artwork, but there is always a general ground which can be evaluated. In this case one can evaluate and review the museum itself. The architecture of the museum is very geometrical and at certain points there is a careful attention drawn to some of the rooms and stairs. The gallery exhibit was disappointingly boring and the descriptive displays were very roughly transmitted to in accordance to the paintings. The service and security staff gave the feeling to most people that went with me that we were doing something wrong or illegal by simply looking at the art. There is an unfortunate overpricing to the entrance of the galleries as compared to other art museums in the world. When I think of London or New York this museum doesn't even score on the scale of value. Besides all these down turns there is a small upside that the lighting is well achieved on all of the art and the halls give a feeling of entering a larger, open building. Unfortunately I would not suggest a visit here, only if there is an interesting display on, but otherwise there are many other things that can be visited in Bonn which are much more enjoyable.

Had I not been to the amazing museums in Cologne and Essen on the same trip I would have likely been content with the collection at this museum. The more contemporary art sections laid out in huge rooms were abysmal for me. The best part was the Macke collection, which is a wonderful treat. But I was surprised at how the rest of the German expressionist collection here simply did not compare to what I saw at many other museums throughout Germany. There are a few highlights, of course and for that it may be worth a visit. The building is also interesting, but in my view extremely poorly laid out for a museum in select sections. The general feel of the place is that it is rather stale and lonely, and when we were there it was utterly empty - we had the whole musem to ourselves. In general, I found the museum a little depressing compared to what I experienced in nearby towns. The cafe, across the courtyard served what must be the worst food I have had in my life.

I have been visiting art galleries for too many years to mention and I have never been treated like a vandal, in any of them, except this on. Room 2, Dont stand closer than 1 meter away from the paintings, you will set the alarm off, Room 3, you must not look at the pictures from an angle only straight on ,room 4 your hand bag must be worn on the front of your body,do not place any finger on the display case, it will be dirty., do not wear you handbag on your back it will set the alarm off. You are not allowed to carry a coat or jumper as it will damage the paintings. & euros wasted as I left, they are the fascists of gallery attendants , dont bother unless you like being told off.

The spacious building houses an impressive collection of Rhenish Expressionism (with local boy August Macke at its centre), as well as an interesting overview of German modern art after WWII. The latter requires additional information to be enjoyed and understood in its proper context, and some if it is provided on info leaflets in every room, giving a short introduction to the work of the displayed artists (both in German and English). A personal highlight was the room dedicated to Joseph Beuys with several of his well known "multiples", as well as the projection of the footage of his famous performance "I Like America and America Likes Me" (the one with the coyote).Visitors are free to explore the museum in any direction they choose, which is on one hand liberating, but can also be confusing as you might be wandering in circles, trying not to miss any rooms you haven't viewed yet. The staff is in general friendly and reserved, although some guards were slightly too careful and restrictive, commenting on my wife's rather small purse and my camera bag, which are allowed inside by the way and which we held close to our bodies even without their interventions (but hey, it's still Germany and Ordnung muss sein :P). Photography is allowed inside, if you're courteous enough to not use the flash. The museum has also a small cafe with seat outside, where you can have a drink or grab a bite for a reasonable price, and the waiters are REALLY friendly and helpful. A total experience.

The Kuntsmuseum along Bonn's Museum Mile consists of a series of galleries in which its permanent collection of post-modern and impressionist art is exceptionally well displayed, and areas are given over to short-term exhibitions of various media. What we found particularly pleasing and exciting were: (1) the building design, which provides for wide open spaces in which pieces are displayed; (2) the gallery staff's deliberate effort to engage the visitor by providing a sheet of information to the entrance of each gallery room on which some information on the featured artist is provided, along with some insight into his/her philosophical perspective, all of which are in both German and English; and (3) areas devoted to new and upcoming artists in a variety of media. We visited on a Sunday when the crowds were small. Nevertheless, the KunstPolizei were out in force, with a security "guard" at one of the entrances to each room. We were kept "under surveillance" quite extensively, but found these individuals to be personable, obscure when taking photographs of any piece (without flash, of course), and helpful with answering our questions. To insure that we saw all the exhibits, one of the guards directed us to the rooms on the 2nd floor and told us how many rooms could be visited. There is no museumplan for the building, which leaves you to wander in whichever direction you choose, ultimately "finding" all of the treasures on display. We ate lunch at the Cafe, and found the food to be well prepared, savory, and diverse. There is a taglish menu that changes daily, along with a set menu of salads, quiches, and German fare. Prices in the Cafe were no different than in other parts of the city, and the service was good. Our waitress easily moved from German to English as the need arose. Viewing the museum exhibits takes at least 2 hours as these are curated on the 3rd and 2nd floors of the building. Anyone who enjoys Kunst already knows that "beauty is in the eye of the beholder." True, some of the works we found boring or mundane (even though one artist had just received the 2012 KunstPreis), but the majority of our time was well spent. Highly recommended for part of a day spent in Bonn.

Kunstmuseum is located on the Museumsmeile and is easily accessible on the U-Bahn from downtown Bonn or from the opposite direction of Bad Godesberg. The building itself is worth seeing. The August Macke collection is large and there are numerous other impressionists represented. The highlight though is the special Pixar exhibit that chronicles the history of Pixar and all its feature films like Finding Nemo, Toy Story and the newest one, Brave. The exhibit is absolutely fascinating and suitable for all ages. I'm not sure how long it will be at the museum, so I highly recommend seeing it soon.

We travelled here from the centre of Bonn via the U-Bahn (Underground) which was very easy. We had a tourist day ticket obtained from the Tourist Information Centre in Bonn, which is good value at 9 euros and covered you for 24 hours of travel within Bonn and also the museums/attractions were either free or reduced in price. The Bonn Kunst Museum ticket price was reduced by 50% and therefore it's less than 2 Euros. However, the Museum upstairs was closed. Some of the exhibits were interesting, but the main attraction is actually the building itself. The Museum is housed adjacent to other museums, so it's worth an afternoon to drift between the museums here on the Bonn 'Museum Mile'.

This museum which is located on the Museumsmeile right beside the Bundeskunsthalle is architecturally interesting with a fantastic entrance hall and curved staircase up to the 1st floor. Although it houses many interesting works of art, my favourite is the collection of works by August Macke and the Rhenish Impressionists. A guided tour here makes the exhibition come to life and is highly recommended. The paintings are presented beautifully and there is ample space to view them from near and afar. Downstairs the cafe offers a good variety of food and beverages and there are tables outside in summer.
