The Cologne central station is well laid out with escalators and elevators connecting the various levels. Lots of fast food restaurants and stands, and even some shopping. The cleanliness is disappointing, however. Particularly for Germany.

There are a good selection of shops within the station building, but apart from that the station is nothing remarkable.

Both the indoor & outdoor achitecture are pretty nice. So far they provide an enough range of parking spots (comparing to other German Metropoles). The shops are also open on sundays. You actualy get what you need except for big electronic utilities and veggies maybe. The service :+ Lost & Found+ Tix (also travel agents)+ Storage boxes (small n large)+ Info Center+ Toilettes/Shower+ Wide range of shops (icl. florist, cosmetics/perfumes, bookstore, giftshops, Cafes and Restaurants- Tribune- sometime you hardy hear the announcement- the platforms too large/long so its quite easy to get on to the wrong train- since 1 platform is being used by 2 different directions at once.

The Central Station is easy. You can find everything there to shop, eat, drink... a Major hub for the region. Full crowded of tourist and locals. Be very very careful since its packed with pickpockets, I was there twice and both times the police were filling reports of thieves.
Skeldergate
A destination in its own right. Not only can you catch a train there but there are numerous shops, cafes and restaurants

This place is very crowded but near most of the major tourist sites. There are two McDonalds and other concessions. There are clean restroom facilities but you must pay a euro, so have some coins handy.

Liked the ticket machines which were so simple to use. Instructions given in all lanuages so no difficulty in purchasing ticketrs, finding train times, prices and platform. Also a good selection of shops to browse as well as fast food outlets. A left luggage system is also availble. A good connection to the airport.

The main station is really convenient. You get trains to almost all parts of the Europe.Lufthansa has direct train from koln to Frankfurt airport connectivity.

Passed through on way to hotel and returned for food later. Huge choice of eateries for quick food. Selection of shops when leaving Cologne for forgotten gifts.

Walk out the station and you are at the doors of the DOM which is free to enter and at the opposite exit the BUS station and down the stairs theres the TRAM ---everything very accessable and well signed for travel to most places in central Europe .Its also one stop away from the EXHIBITION CENTRE allowing one to stay outside KOLN and interchange with the tram and hopefully getting a better hotel deal---central hotels are typically expensive especially when exhibitions are in progress--book ahead directly with hotels to get the best deals. There are plenty of shops and resteraunts in the station but if you only want a coffee i would recommend MacDonalds at 1euro per cup representing excellent value for money sited across from the bus station. One tip there can be 2 trains on the same platform so catch the right one

A good example of how a clean, tidy station should be. Staff in the ticket area were very very good.

This station will take your breath away. You could go and spend the day just taking photos and have a coffee in the cafes. The city has done itself proud on this. Probably the best I have seen in Europe.

From this centrally located railroad station you can travel through out europe. When I had difficultty flying into Cologne I received a lower cost flight to Paris and caught the train to Cologne which was a quick and very relaxing two and a half hour ride. I have also been to dusseldourf and Baden Baden and to the black forest country from Cologne. Any where in Europe if open to you by rail from Cologne.

We used the station to cut through to get to the cathedral quater and the christmas markets. We found it hard to fing a help desk, but train timetables and platforms well signed

Simple to negotiate with easy button press ticket options for trips to other towns/villages. Good little shops and also the best currywurst in the world!
