tiskilwa farms alpacas

Because I had the grandkids for a Spring Break day, I Googled Illinois farms for a possible excursion. Up popped Tiskilwa Alpaca Farms - so why not? About 1/2 hour drive past Starved Rock State Park, the two destinations can be combined for a pleasant daytrip from Chicago. After viewing their website, we called the farm to make an appointment.Chad, the very gracious farm manager, showed us around, explained alpaca care and behavior, and even let the kids (preteens) walk among the alpacas and pet them. There are about 200 alpacas to view. The farm also has chickens, turkeys, rabbits, sheep - all in a clean, picturesque environment . The city kids loved it. The Farm maintains a small alpaca knits shop in the town of Tiskilwa aka Mayberry, where sweaters, knitwear may be purchased. Most of the alpaca products, however, are from South America, not from the farm.
