Not many people like waking up early, either on vacation or the weekend. Everyone enjoys their sleep in time. However, you will want to make this an exception. Pay $1.00 to walk on the pier or $4.00 to fish all day is a deal. The pier is 1320 feet long and you will feel like you hit heaven by the time you reach the end and look out into the water and the sky. Then await for the sun to start coming up out of the ocean it will be the best calgone moment you ever had. Also, they have full bathroom facilities, concession and bait shop. This pretty much gives you what you need and want. Even on a cold morning you will be glad you got up early just to start your day off in the right direction. You won't have any cares or worries as you listen to those waves below your feet, take in all the sights and watch that beautiful orange ball turn into a bright light high above you. If your in the area, go several times as each sunrise is different.

Really enjoyed our short time in this area, would like to come back for more enjoyment. Lots of things to do, very nice bricked giant sidewalks, lots to see and do

Walked the beach after breakfast and the family wanted to walk the pier. Plan to spend $1.00 per person to take a look. I was happy to spend the money just to participate in preserving this place. On a windy January Morning it was a great place to feel one with the ocean waves. The broke out near the end of the pier and crashed numerous times. Huge and quite a feeling. The local fishing scene was quite interesting. Fun to see the locals trying to catch whiting fish, but most of the time they were catching dog shark. One of the locals gave us an up close view. The group of men and women fishing were not the group you usually see when you vacation in Jacksonville Beach, Fl, so it was good just to see the locals who live and work the areas we visit and recreate upon.

Great pier...$1 to walk it, $4 to fish from it. We went on a Saturday and it was crowded with fishermen, but still had fun. Saw a shark and stingray that were caught and released, watched the surfers, and enjoyed the view. If you fish, there is a small bait and tackle shop at the beginning of the pier. There are also bathrooms at the beginning of the pier.

We only had to pay $1 each to walk the pier. It was well worth it! I always love walking out to the end of the pier and looking back at the beach and buildings. There's always someone trying to catch a wave, and it's fun to talk to the folks who are fishing off the pier to see what they've caught (if anything). Parking for the pier is ample and accessible (i.e., no stairs).

I happened on this spot a couple of years ago during a visit to my son's home nearby. My wife and I both enjoy beach combing and people watching and the pier was highly recommended by friends. We were picnicking at a nearby park with a church group so decided to walk the few blocks to the pier and check it out. It has become one of our favorite places to hang out.The pier is quite easy to find from Jacksonville. I just follow Beach Blvd east till it hits A1A North then drive north till you come to 4th St N and turn right. Drive about 2 blocks and you will see a huge parking lot and well posted sign announcing that you have arrived. The lot is well lit at night and I have never had or heard of folks being robbed or assaulted here. It is well patrolled and there are people around most anytime. The pier is to the right side of the parking area and is easily walked to by anyone including those in wheelchairs or pushing strollers. A building at the entrance to the pier itself has restrooms, and sells an assortment of bait and some tackle. The friendly folks there will ask for $4 each for those fishing and $1 each for those who are just watching. These prices cover the entire time the pier is open. The hours vary a bit from summer to winter, but many long hours spent fishing or people watching is worth the paltry few bucks spent. You can catch anything off this pier that you can catch in the open ocean. I saw a giant red fish caught and released a few days ago and personally caught and released about 10 nice bluefish. My wife caught a 2 foot long bonnet head shark which she happily released after several pictures were snapped. There are cleaning stations along the pier with running water and several shaded wooden benches. One caveat to mention: Hide your bait when not using it and don't set your food down for even a second. The pesky birds WILL steal it and PDQ!!!For those that don't want to wait for their fisher friends on the pier the Jacksonville Beach stretches for miles on each side. Come on out and enjoy this place. There is plenty of room and fun for all.

I loved the pier. It was the first time I saw fog at the beach. At first it was spooky but it was so cool. The atmosphere was very safe.

We saw many fisherman using the pier. Everyone was relaxed and enjoying the day! You need $1.00 which allows access all day. Public parking right next to pier entrance. Very convenient and enjoyable.

Spending the day on the fishing pier was my best memory of vacationing in Jacksonville Beach. The pier is seemingly endless, with a wide "T" a the end. It was loaded with every sort of fisherman- chic middle aged ladies, wrinkled old Asians, sunburned surfer boys, young couples on a date, kids of all kinds, retired folks and the tired dad taking a break at the end of the day. Beautiful picture opps, nice little shop shack, best place to really meet the locals and find out what Jacksonville is all about. It was my first time fishing on the ocean, and everyone was more than willing to share their technique, show me how to shrimp my hooks, take the weird catch off my line (a stingray!!!). I loved hanging with everyone, who welcomed me pleasantly yet not necessarily bothering me. I was just "one of them" for the day. $1 to walk the pier all day (you can reenter throughout the day).$4 to fish (this includes a daily license to fish).Shop Shack has ATM, snacks, bathrooms, tackle, bait, poles, and whatnots.Cash Only.
