gardens of crandon park

The Gardens of Crandon Park occupy the site of the former Crandon Park Zoo, which moved to a much larger location in 1980-81. Several remnants of the former zoo remain, e.g., "shells" of former cages.There are many paved trails for walking, running, and biking. There is a large pond, which is very attractive to wading birds. The birding is excellent. On a recent Sunday, we spent less than 2 hours birding, We saw 20 species, including several statuesque sandhill cranes, a huge number of white ibises, and a number of "displaying" peacocks.There is no admission fee. However, there is a fee to park (South Entrance Lot).
