Yes, this historic plantation and simple house is home to not only the Haile family but "the Talking Walls." Each rooms of this historic home has written notations on its walls. Perhaps there was a shortage of paper or they wanted a permant copy of lists, supplies, guests, silver..etc. this fact gives an insightful and tangible look back in time. Simple furnishings in this modest home gives your mind room to roam, to imagine the past. A twist to the predictable homes of yester year.

I have family who lived this way back in the day and it's a nice Sunday afternoon visit to show the children how it used to be. Lovely old plantation but wish there was more furniture. Lots of new parking and RESTROOMS! Worth a visit

This place is cool if you're into that kind of stuff. It was a little boring and slow moving, I wish they would've had more interactive stuff. But it was still really educational and neat to see. If there were any improvements to be made it would be to be able to see more of the grounds that Haile family owned than just the house.

The Historic Haile Homestead is a great way to spend an hour or so exploring the history of Gainesville.By no means will this attraction encompass your entire afternoon, but it's swell for a brief and relaxing jaunt. Fun for the whole family. Our tour guide was Anne, who (for a whopping $5) gave us a thorough and unbiased tour of the house. From its inception to its current state (and that handwriting on the wall!), we got a very comprehensive look at some Gainesville history.Would completely recommend to anyone looking for a cute and endearing way to learn about the good ol South.

Wonderful docent-led tour of this mid-1800's plantation home. Very little furniture, but thousands of writings on the walls! And most are not graffiti, but historical hints at the family's way of life. Mother did not stop to get her pen and paper, but instead recorded remedies and inventory in whatever room she was in. Not for little children unless they can be quiet going through.

A well preserved, unique homestead of the Haile family, who wrote things on the walls of their home. Docents are well informed and the house is especially pretty at Christmas time when decorated as it would have been 100+ years ago in typical Florida style.

Wonderful little visit to the true Old South with an excellent docent. Extraordinarily well preserved antebellum home with a twist: the residents left messages written on the walls! Very easy access only a few miles off I-75.

If you go to Gainesville take time for this beautiful Plantation. It was originally a real working plantation but is now homes and a little village. It is so southern with oaks and moss. Reminds me of the old south and is a nice piece of history.

This s very interesting educational thing to do. I went during a holiday & they had ghd people wearing clothes from when the area was settled (home) and they offered some common treats they had back then. Very historic and will take you back in time.
