The Perkins Mansion is a real treasure for Akron. It is a well presented example of life in early Akron. The first floor and most of the second floor show the lifestyle of wealthy family with many antiques.

The Perkins Mansion is very nice yet underrated. However, the John Brown House would be better if there was anyone interested in people touring the home. The volunteers there that day showed no interest at all in giving us a tour of the house. If the ticket was a combo, they would have no choice but to give tours of the house.

Our guide that gave us the tour was very knowledgable in the subject matter. Beautiful, well-maintained mansion. The grounds were also kept up and are pretty this time of year. Would highly recommend.

We visited the Perkins Stone Mansion and the John Brown home on a Friday afternoon. We’ve taken a couple of tours of Perkins in the past (including their ghost tour in October-which I recommend) but had not gotten a chance to tour the John Brown home. This year they offer a tour of both homes for one low admission price. A tour of Perkins had already started so we joined the group. Our tour guide was knowledgeable and even included interesting paranormal facts about the home. The other members of the tour group however, put a slight damper on our tour by laughing at these stories and talking over the guide amongst themselves. Whether or not they believed the stories the tour guide offered, it was rather disrespectful and immature to question and giggle at the things he was saying. We opted to wait on visiting the John Brown home until later in the afternoon to avoid having to listen to them during that tour. We were glad that we waited; in the gift shop area we got to talk more to the lady that met us at the beginning of the tour and also to an intern from the local University. They were both very friendly and gave us lots of information. The intern took us over to the John Brown home which we liked but were hoping for a few more displays and would have liked to have seen upstairs. This home has been used for meetings and was different looking than what I expected (I was picturing Haines House in Alliance or Springhill in Massillon.) However, I was still happy to have been inside. We spent a few minutes walking around outside and taking some pictures and purchased a book from the small gift shop. Be sure to check out the other historic homes in the area such as the Hower House and Stan Hywet. If you’re going to be in the area I recommend a visit.

Cool old stone mansion, built by Akron's founder, with lots of original antique furnishing. Our tour guide took us back through what it was like to live in the 1800's. It even has a ghost. The place was built in 1835 and is in great shape. If you'd like to see the John Brown house, across the street, the guide might be persuaded to take you over there.

Had a nice afternoon visiting Perkins Stone Mansion. Learned so much about Akron's history and the Perkins family from our tour guide. He was full of lots of interesting facts and the tour was great. There is even a small gift shop on the grounds.
