A beautiful and not too difficult hike. Save $10 parking fee and park on the El Dorado County side of the bridge. My favorite hike in this area! So many trails too, so don't take my word for it, check it out for yourself!

Per Matt C's review, the Applegate access to Lake Clementine is ONLY by hiking. There is NO vehicle access to the lake from this side. residents frequently encounter frustrated people with cars full of kids and grandmother looking to drive to the lake. Remember, great hikes, NO VEHICLES.

Awesome area! It has great scenery, its so lovely and breath-taking. BEAUTIFUL.. nice place to camp. Great multiple hiking/bike trails. Easy access to all areas. Place is very well kept up. The single trails are awesome...best part is that there are several trails all within a handshake of each other. One path will lead to many more as you go. Clulvert Loop is very fast and rocky. Great view throughout all the trails. Down the Fire Trail, you can find several water access trails.

Started the hike at the Old Forest Hill Bridge to near the bade of the dam. The trail is a moderate walk, an easy hike. Lots of poison oak so stay on the trail. The dam over look was so pretty! Worth the time to do this hike.

This is a beautiful lake to explore. You can enter at the paved road to the dam or at Upper Clementine Road, which is a bumpy gravel road. Both locations are nice. It's a beautiful lake to kayak. You can get a good wind from the west in the afternoon, so take that into consideration if you are paddling the lake.

Great access from auburn ca. Water is warm and lake is not packed. The parking isimited so you must get there early on the weekends. Which is good because the lake doesn't get crowded. There are several good beaches up river/lake you can set up got a nice day trip or camp over night. Only way to get to the beach/ camp sites is by boat! Great Lake for kayaking.

We probably visit the Auburn State Recreation Area more than any other people on Trip Advisor --- that is because we live on a hill that overlooks the North Fork of the American River. One of our favorite hiking trails takes us from the "Applegate" side of the lake, not the usual dusty & dirty road you take from Foresthill Road. The "Applegate" side of Upper Clementine gets 5 stars for its pristine beauty and its lack of crowds & automobiles. Since "Our Side Of The Lake" does not allow motor vehicles, its much quieter and not as dusty. Several alternate trails take us to Lower Clementine and yet another popular trail takes you to Codfish Falls and Ponderosa Bridge in Weimar.

We were driving on Foresthill Highway and saw the sign and decided to stop by - I took the four pictures of the Lake - it was serene and peaceful. The upper end of the reservoir can be reached by following the Foresthill Highway east from Auburn for 5.0 miles. Turn left at the sign to the Upper Lake Clementine Day Use Area. The road turns to gravel after leaving the highway and is somewhat narrow and rough at times. It's gated closed each winter.

Upper Lake Clementine is minutes from Auburn, CA and has a rural, swimming hole vibe. We visited on Labor Day weekend and were surprised to find it was not overly crowded. The park is family friendly, with no alcoholic beverages, glass containers or dogs allowed. Life jackets are available for use while at the park. The road to the lake is a winding dirt road, so be prepared! Our daughter participated in a Jr. Ranger program about aquatic wildlife during our visit. Note, be sure to take the road to *Upper* Lake Clementine, as Lower Lake Clementine is for boating only. There is a $10/vehicle admission fee.

Greatest canoeing lake, few visitors, clean, small, beautiful.

Great place to camp and with a limited amount of camping spots it makes it feel a bit removed. It is just too bad it's hard to get a reservation.
