The memorial monument, is a very interesting site. We were agog at the heights of the floods, and of the recent flood levels too. It makes you realise, many things. Including the havoc these floods cause.

This Memorial graphically shows the water level for the Red River of the North. Living close to the Red River in Texas, I have always been interested in this river, which flows North into Canada. We well remember the devastating flood in Grand Forks where the area flooded and buildings were on fire. This Memorial is very impressive and visually explains the power of water.

Took our Arizona friends to the greenway and monument, where they took several pictures, and it's hard to imagine how high the water here actually was in Grand Forks/East Grand Forks in April of 1997! What a sight! A must-see for all visitors!

It was a very interesting place to visit. See how deep in water they were is a reflection of the trials the city had to overcome not very long ago.

served beer not drinks, and it was loud. Dont sit in the first 10 rows if you want to stay clean and bring a blanket to sit on the benches are hard on the toosh!

This monument helps to put the flood of 1997 into perspective. It's a short walk from the parking lot or combine it with a longer walk through the greenway. Don't miss the two interpretive panels that exist in the downtown area about three blocks in the opposite direction from the parking lot that provide photos and narratives of the flood.

Having grown up during the 1979 flood and having my folks go through the 1997 flood, it was great to see how these two floods matched up against each other. Definitely worth a look and the placement of the memorial, next to one of the ND-MN bridges is great because you see it was way above the bridge and how much water the floods had to be given the flat land.

This little tower by the banks of the Red River in downtown Grand Forks shows the height and year of the last hundred years' floods. Immediately one sees how much higher and more disastrous was the epic 1997 flood compared to others. A good design; worth a visit.

How do begin to explain to people who have no knowledge of the flood or how it impacts people. This very simple tribute to the heartiness of the families in Grand Forks that overcame adversity says it all. It reminded me of the flood guides at Yosemite National Park that you could stand beside to get an idea of how high the water level was over the years. I found the monument tasteful and thoughtfully creative. Nice job...the town that would not die!

This is a fascinating site to visits and helps you get a grasp on just how high the flood waters can get when the circumstances are just right. I was in Grand Forks for the 1997 flood and this really helps to put things into perspective.

Could use more information about the floods and their impacts. Right downtown, which is the highlight of gf.

Beautiful monument but would have appreciated a descriptive plaque. Cabellas is overrated!! Fear the ear!

Erected as a tribute and memorial to those lives that were lost in the many floods the Red River has had over the past few decades, this is a great monument to swing downtown and see.

I'd watched the record floods swallow Grand Forks on TV in '97 and cried then for all the horrors destroying that historic downtown area. Seeing the memorial, and the amazing park system, the magnificently restored historical buildings is a testament to the hardiness and perserverance of a wonderful population. I actually got goose bumps. WELL DONE. GF!!

The monument is esthetically pleasing. The color is reminiscent of sand so it brings to mind the thousands of sand bags that people volunteered to fill and stack to try to hold back the torrent. The levels of the monument indicate the heights of the floods and the sacrifice people along the Red River made. The monolith is impressive.
