This museum was great - the write-ups of the artifacts and the history of uncovering them was informative and helpful. The artifacts themselves were amazing - the detail work on some of the combs was incredible.

I was appalled by how rude the staff was. One of them told me that being white I should feal bad about bringing the tribes small pox.

Worth the visit. Friendly caretaker was very informative about the area. This tribe were seafarers and whale hunters. We were there in the fall so some of the local places were closed for the season.

This museum is a "must see" when you are in the area. It is so well organized and most informative. The history of the Makah tribe is fascinating and the way the museum presents it is outstanding. Plan to spend time there so that you can see everything and take the time to appreciate it and all the effort that went into these exhibits.

This charming museum has great exhibits of the traditional native northwest art. There are very few locations available to see this type of work. Take the opportunity to see the real thing.

We'll displayed artifacts and interesting explanations of the culture. Great film that highlights how the museum staff, researchers and community worked together respectfully to make the museum authentic

The Makah Museum documents the culture of the Makah people and particularly the archaeological site at Ozette, a Makah community that was buried by a landslide about 500 years ago. The designers of this museum did a professional job telling the story with artifacts of this very interesting village. The level of sophistication of the Makah people is well illustrated with both large and small items including hunting canoes, a large lodge house, tools, basketry and textiles found at the Ozette site. In addition to telling the story of the people and their culture, the exhibits also illustrate the archaeological process that excavated Ozette. This museum is head and shoulders above the typical small town historical accumulations that claim to be museums.

My husband and I visited the museum while we were in the area. It took me about an hour to get through. I am one of those slooooow museum people- my husband made it through much more quickly. I was very impressed with the full-size replica of a Makah longhouse. Standing inside the longhouse was a unique and memorable museum experience for me. It was very gratifying to have the experience as opposed to just reading about it. The man running the front desk and gift store was very knowledgeable and was generous enough to share his personal and family perspectives regarding being a Makah in the 20th and 21st centuries. I really enjoyed getting to know about his people while at the museum.

It's a very important museum because it's also a prove off how the Makah lived years ago. It gives the Makah people a cultural background and everyone else insight in pre-american history and how Makahs have lived.

There was nothing to dislike about this museum. Is inexpensive and the museum is created nicely, the staff was friendly, the grounds are nicely kept.

The Makah Museum is as advertised. It's a great part of this beautiful corner of the country. For $5 you'll get a great cultural experience. Most of the exhibits explain the history of the tribe or describing items the tribe used or still uses. There is an extensive exhibit of the archaeological dig near Ozette which is interesting. There are 2 showcases that make this place great. One are the 2 canoes on display. Some of the best you will ever see. I'm sure they could be used today. Better constructed than what you would see being used now. The second must see is the warm house in middle of the museum. You can walk through it and can imagine what it would be like for a bunch of people living in a fairly small house together. It explains well who would be where like the chief for example. Even though it's 20 years old and a bit long for a museum movie (58 minutes) the video talking about the tribe is quite interesting. If you're hitting the trails on the reservation and don't have their pass yet, this is a good spot to get one. There's also a small gift shop for souvenirs if you wish. The Makah Museum is worth the visit.

The museum is well worth the time to go through. It gives a well organized history into the earlier days of the Makah Indian tribe. Very interesting and I loved the canoes. They are still beautiful today.I spent many summer vacations in the 50's as a child with my family in Neah Bay while my dad went fishing for salmon so the museum is a welcome addition.

I'm not normally into Indian Museums, but this one was different and worth the time. The Dugout Canoes were the best I've ever seen. However, they don't allow pictures.
