smaller than some of the bigger caves in the area, quite a few very steep stairs. Very cold hand rail but pretty cave formations and fun guide. Privately owned and more expensive than some of the larger caves, I would recommend if you can only do one go to one of the larger caves in the area.

We visited with two kids, 12 and 10. They had no trouble with the steep steps. The tour guide was good. It is 45 or 50 degrees inside the cave and it was 85 degrees outside. We also visited Jewel Cave (Lantern Tour) and liked that better. Pricing was a bit higher than we expected.

Went to Rushmore Cave the day before and liked it, so we thought we would try another. Steps are not that bad, just a little cold on the hands holding the handrail. Seeing the dogstooth spar was a change from stalactites and stalagmites. Followed the nature trail when we were done with the cave tour, pleasant little walk.

This tour of the Sitting Bull Caverns was the highlight of our recent trip of the Rapid City area. The road in is very winding- do follow the advice of the signs and do not take an RV down this road. Once in the gift shop we proceeded to sign up for a tour. The attendant advised that if we had any physical limitations that would preclude us from descending and/or ascending 185 steps that we should not take the tour. We are fit and paid for the tour. Once out at the entrance to the main cave we were shown a smaller cave where Sitting Bull and his people spent several winters. The rocks above the entrance to this smaller cave are still black from the smoke of their fires. The main cave is cool, about 10- 12 degrees Celcius. A light jacket should suffice. We took the stairs toward the floor of the cave and were stopped several times by our wonderful guide to look at different formations of crystals. It seemed that the dog spur crystals grew larger the further we entered into the cave. Our guide was very knowledgeable about the history of the cave and broke our group up to have us enter into a smaller branch of the cave. This was most interesting. This tour seemed to be on the expensive side when we were paying but was worth every penny. I must recommend that you stop to see this if you have an opportunity.

We decided to visit the Crystal Caverns based on a brochure in our hotel. We rode our motorcycle out to the location. (we were there for the bike rally in Sturgis) The entrance says, go 1 mile. So we started driving, we crossed a cattle guard and then there was an extremely windy, blind curve, downward zig zag to the bottom. Granted it makes for a great story, but it may not be a ride everyone could do with a motorcycle. A slight warning about the descent would have been nice. The Caverns were fun, our guide was nice and informative. My father couldn't go into the cave, it is a lot of steep stairs up and down for about 350 feet. It hard my rate going pretty strong on the way back up. Fun to do overall though!

This was a cool event for me and my 10 year old. Be ready to climb about 200 very steep steps. Bring a jacket - 45 degrees once you enter the cave. Our guide was a high school kid who didn't reall know much.

The staff here are very friendly and accommodating. Unfortunately, they make very sure to mention the height on the stairs going down into the cave. The problem is, they scared both my wife and my oldest daughter out of going. When the rest of us entered, there was one spot where you could see a long way down, but other than that, you would never think you were that high above the floor, especially when your too busy climbing down the steps. They also make it sound like a very strenuous "10 story" climb, but it really isn't bad at all. My 2 other kids and I really enjoyed walking through the cave, and our guide was very informative and helpful. I highly recommend it, but don't let them scare you out of it (they do give you a full refund if you decide not to go through with it).

This was a beautiful cave. The staff were extremely friendly and informative. Not too long of a tour which is great, as it is a little chilly in the cave. I think its great that they allow you to see how many steps you must take to get to bottom of cave and allow people to get a refund before tour starts if it is too hard on people. I would not recommend this for older people unless you are in great shape because steps are a little wet and very steep! ! But so worth it to see. Kinda like an adventure in itself getting to the bottom. The grounds are beautiful and my family and i enjoyed hiking on the paths behind the cave after the tour.So glad we pulled in here on a whim. Good memory for our whole family!

This seems to be a family ran attraction and the guide did a fine job with my group. Our group only consisted of about 10 people so this made the tour more intimate than what occurs at some other caves. There are many steep steps so if you have any problems going up or down steps, this tour is not for you. if you are afraid of heights, probably don't want to come here. There are many dogtooth crystals and I believe it contains the largest one in the world. I would definitely encourage others to go there. We were considering wind cave or Jewel cave, but they were much farther away from our hotel in Rapid City. Once you are finished with the cave, there is an above ground cave you are allowed to explore and they even provide the flashlights. Also, there is a nature trail that was on the same property that was quite scenic.

Thos is a crystal cave. Has long local history & fa!ily owned. Joey was a good guide. Our 4 year old too the chicken exit after the first set of steps-10 flights of very steep & narrow steps. The company gave us a refund which is pretty much I heard of these days. We spent the rest of our time on the trails and rock formations as well as gemstone panning while waiting for out tour to finish. Long steep drive with hairpin turns is not for rv's and large trucks, which is very clearly posted at the front entrance from the highway. Has decent gift shop and restrooms. Good family adventure, but not for little ones. I would recommend.

A great tour means having a great tour guide and we were not disappointed here. The road was incredibly windy but for us it was all part of the adventure. The founder of the cave's great, great grandson led us through this interesting cavern full of crystals, and he was very bright and interesting. Our kids thought he was so funny, and it was great to see them enjoying themselves. This takes only about an hour of your time and is right between Mt. Rushmore and Bear Country. Very reasonable rates. Bring a sweatshirt and go have fun!!

It was near the end of the day and we wanted to get info about this cavern for the next day, so we drove down. They do not warn you that the drive down is extremely steep and treacherous and should only be attempted by a car or pickup, not any RV's or fifth wheels. I would have loved to see the cavern, but would not return down the driveway again.

Very interesting, it you are into formations etc it is neat to take a look. My 4yr old and my 6month pregnant wife walked the stairs which was approx 10 flights and didn't have an issue. Would recommend gloves for the cold and dampness of railings. Very informative and personable staff and guides. Would recommend to families

It was very interesting. Not for the faint of heart. Going down was ok coming back up was slow. Very interesting rock formations.
