Start your day by stopping in the Interpretive Museum, Across the parking lot you will find restored houses and buildings, that are close to the time area of the Canal. There are in the process of restoring a bridge that will take you one the other side of the canal. Go left of the building and follow the trail and you will find a old kiln and a old restored bridge, Look and you will find the old train ties that show you the path of the trains.. There are some picnic tables for your use. There are several interconnecting trails that together form several miles of trails. They are fairly easy hikes. They are confusing, Because they cross Highway 421 and old 25 in a couple of places. You can hike and end up in Delphi's city park. If you enjoy the outdoors and like to learn some history you will enjoy this park,

I wouldn't make this a destination but we were in Delphi shopping at antique malls. They have a real cute main square and two people told us to go to this park. In less than an hour we walked the grounds, visited the interpretive museum and visit the kiln. It was a good break from driving. The park area was clean and had a cool boat playground area. We were there during the week so we had the place to ourselves, but the boats were not operating- didn't really look like we missed too much there. The interpretive center is free and has some neat artifacts and a hands on lock and dam display. A cabin to show life on a boat and some way of life antiques. A small gift shop at the end. The water is an eerily pretty soft emerald green. You can rent paddleboats, kayaks and I believe bikes as well. The pioneer village is small and it was closed as well when we were there. There are restrooms at the end of the village by the parking lot which were open. When we left the park, we went about two blocks to a historic lime kiln park area. It was close to the canal but I don't remember how to get there, I am sure they can tell in the interpretive center. It has the remnants of an enormous lime kiln, a bridge to walk over the water and a couple trails.

This was a neat place to visit. It is nice that it was free to go through the museum as we have a larger family. All of us enjoyed the museum and we were one of a few people there as it was during the week. They have a hands on learning station on how the canal works which was great to see the kids playing with a concept they learned in their curriculum.Worth the time to take a look and very well organized for a small town attraction.

This park is an excellent day trip from Indy. Being a history buff, I found the museum outstanding and the boat trip narration excellent. There's not a lot of advertisement promoting this park. Expect smaller crowds. Dog friendly too.

The Wabash & Erie Canal park located in Delphi, IN is a great place for kids and adults to explore the history of the Wabash & Erie Canal and have fun doing it. The canal boat ride is open to the public on weekends. The museum is open every day and provides hands on learning about the impact of the canal. Canal village has excellent era buildings including the recently relocated and restored Fouts log house with crafters in residence on weekends. A nice park in northern Indiana. The interpretive center (free, seeking donations) is small, but very well done. The boat ride was pleasant and informative, but it only goes something like twice a day. We went during their Canal Days weekend, and they had some artisan booths. We were there about 3 hours, and that's about the max amount of time anyone might spend there. A nice historical day trip if you're from the area.

The newspaper article made the canal boat ride to be a big deal. The schedule was very limited so we didn't get a chance to ride. The historic village comprised of 4 buildings. Not worth the time to explore. The small museum was very nice and gave a good explanation of the canal system.

The short trip on the Canal Boats is very interesting, quaint and well narrated. The Canal Boats are an authentic look into the past of water travel providing some history you didn't learn in school (and very interesting, even though I expected it to be boring). You won't be disappointed!

Take your family and go to this park. It is beautifully pulled together. There is an early fancy house. Canal boats to ride...with lots to see. There is a small museum and lots and lots of trails. This is a family outing worth planning.
