Owned by tanner John Rupp during the Battle of Gettysburg, the Rupp House was a dividing point between Northern and Southern troops. Rebuilt in 1868, it would eventually become the museum you see today. Warning: there is a mannequin in the rear of the museum- it's a bit frightening if you aren't prepared for it.

Very glad I discovered this hidden gem. Museum is run by the Gettysburg Foundation and the staff went out of their way to answer questions and make our visit a great learning experience. This is a kid friendly experience where it is encouraged to open drawers, pickup items, and press buttons for audio and video. Museum provides great insight to the Gettysburg residential life during and after the war. Although small, it is filled with great information and period relevant artifacts. HIGHLY RECOMEMDED AND FREE!!!

A quick stop, free, with highlights from the time. Would not go out of your way, but worth the stop if walking on by.

The Rupp House under the direction of the Gettysburg Foundation is a real treasure. He you can see, at no charge, some of what the Rupp family (and others like them) endured in July 1863. Please patronize the gift shop and help this wonderful organization continue its important preservation work.

This is a self-guided, interactive museum. It'd be terrific for families. I found it interesting but, since I was already familiar with the story of this particular family, it was less so for me. Still, there is something for everyone and it is free so that is a bonus.

Free admission on weekends, the Rupp House is worth touring...a civilian home during the battle, visitors are given a unique perspective of the happenings. The guides are informative and friendly without being overbearing!

This a small museum the you got another look of life during the time. People were friendly and informative. It is a hands on museum and they want you to open up places and see more. No cost to get in.

We were fortunate enough to have a worker share with us, what life was like for civilians after the war. The information he gave was both entertaining and informing. It made us think of a side of the war we have little though of, and is well worth the visit.

The Rupp House was worth visiting. It tells the story of the Rupp family and what they had to do to survive the 3 days of the battle. The admission is free and the tour guide there was very friendly and was very informative.

Nice little museum that encourages kids (and adults) to open drawers, touch the items, build fences (kid's favorite), etc. would definitely recommend.

This is an amazing place. We enjoyed what the costumed docent shared about the Rupp family and what they went through during the 3 day battle. It must have been terrifying! There were some interesting displays and another docent shared additional information as well. And there is no charge. It's one of the really interesting places we went to in Gettysburg!

I couldn't believe after leaving this place that there wasn't a charge for admission! The staff is very helpful and very very knowledgeable on the history of the family, the house and the effects of the battle on the town. The artifacts and relics that are on display are simply remarkable! They have everything from family heirlooms to battlefield relics. This is definitely a place I would recommend to family and friends to visit if they are ever in Gettysburg!

My friends and I were leisurely walking along the main strip in Gettysburg when we stumbled upon this beautiful interactive museum. PLEASE take the time to experience this wonderful gem when you visit Gettysburg! The volunteer staff are dedicated and passionate about giving their visitors a wonderful interactive museum experience. It's just the right size if you are limited in time, but there are so many wonderful things to learn and see that you may not elsewhere. AND....admission is FREE! It was 5 minutes before close, but instead of telling us they were about to close or expecting us to rush through in 5 mintues, they still toured us through the home and pointed out the highlights and were eager to answer all our questions. There are very few experiences I have had in a museum as special as this....do not miss it when you go! I cannot wait to go back!

Some years ago, this was a B&B. The owners had a dog which they didn't tell you about when you made reservation so if you had an allergy, too bad. However, now it is a wonderful free museum that is open on the weekends. It has hands on exhibits as well as some items under glass. It tells about the battle but also the civilian side. Love to go in there. Worth the time.

We stopped here because it was free. It was interesting because instead of learning more battle information we learned about how the battle affected the citizens of Gettysburg. Worth a visit. They accept donations.
