Being in the cottage where America's best playwright lived as a boy was sensational. This house was the scene of America's best play, Long Days Journey Into Night.

We drove an hour to get to the Monte Cristo Cottage in New London. Their website states that the hours are Thur - Sat 12pm - 4pm, Sun 1pm - 4 pm. Through Labor Day. Today is Friday, August 23rd and the weekend before Labor Day. We arrived at 12:25 pm and the place was closed. No sign posting any hours or why no one was there. We waited around for 15 minutes but, no one showed up. Needless to say we were very disappointed. We wasted our time and gas. If they advertise the hours on their website, then they should be open during those hours. Won't be going back.

My husband and I teach English so we always hit literary attractions. This is the childhood home of Eugene O'Neill. It is a "must see" for anyone who enjoys his works.
