My boyfriend and I were in Las Cruces for a quick trip before his deployment and this was a great experience for us to share. Billy is the real deal and his ranch offers beautiful views, lessons in history and science and an authentic experience. We had a wonderful day on the ranch taking in the stunning scenery and sharing a new adventure together. It's a memory I am glad to have with me while my boyfriend is away. If you are visiting Las Cruces you should definitely give Billy a call!

Billy is a first-rate Trail Guide, Trainer and Character. He will train you how to ride his horses and you will have a first rate ride once you heed his words and "dance with your horse with your hips". Billy's love of the land and the rich Western history come in bursts of stories of the Mexican-American War, Gadsden Purchase and Butterfield Stage Line. The first ride is to an ancient cave with archaic smoke covered overhang. Billy points out nearby fossil in-prints and area geological formations keeping the mind active while the eye consumes the scenery. Great fun and educational half-day at an equally wonderful price. He does it 'cause he wants to; not 'cause he has to.

This was the first time we'd been to the Las Cruces area and my manfriend's first time on a horse. What better time then to take the journey? Billy (owner) is quite the cowboy and really knows his history and geology. We had lots of fun exploring some caves during our ride. When making your reservations with Billy, make sure to get directions to the ranch from him so you end up in the correct area. Once at the ranch, he loads up the horses and you drive your vehicle to the area for the ride. Billy drives the horses separately. Getting to the ride area is very a long, dusty road. We were very glad to have a rental SUV. Also - make sure to wear long pants and proper foot covering for hiking/climbing. There is a restroom at the ranch however, have to do the nature route once on the horses. You might want to bring along a bottle of water also. This was overall a great experience.

We visited Las Cruces, NM last year in November and had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Billy Prewitt – owner and guide at Corralitos Trail Rides. We found the website for Corralitos Trail Rides while traveling to New Mexico from Florida and based on the photos and information on the site we decided to give it a chance. I called the number and was met with a very gruff “Hello” – since I was expecting something more professional I stumbled through my question about setting up a time to take a trail ride. While the gentleman on the other end of the line was far from professional (and maybe not even all that friendly at first) I soon found out why. Billy is a real down to earth cowboy and once you get to know him a joy to be around. He is no frills and all business but also quick to make you laugh and tell you a good story if you are willing to listen. We learned about the plants and animals that are native to the land we rode on and a few funny stories about history and growing up in New Mexico. The horses were obviously well taken care of and you could tell that Billy understands and respects his animals and the terrain around him. We got more than our money’s worth and took a slow and leisurely ride way out to a mountain range. Once we got there he showed us some caves and let us go exploring. He even pointed out some dinosaur tracks and a few Native American paintings. We never once felt rushed or that it was all about the money. In my opinion it was the best experience of the whole trip.If you are looking for a happy go lucky tour guide with a bunch of fluff then Corralitos isn’t for you. But if you want an authentic riding experience with a man full of knowledge and a chance to explore some local terrain then I highly recommend spending a day here. This also isn’t the best place for young children since the ride out to the caves is long and without an adult eye to spot the beauty in the birds and scenery it may be a little boring for them. The caves are also safe but not young child friendly (I’d say 7+ is a safe age.) I’d recommend making sure that your children are old enough to be able to handle sitting in the saddle for a long time and keeping themselves occupied. Also depending on the time that you go be sure to dress in layers. You can always take clothing off and hook it to the saddle bags as needed and expect to get dirty! Everything in New Mexico is covered in dust. =)
