This is small, black box type theater. We just saw Guys & Dolls, very nice experience. Great vocals , one of the leads is off to NYC for her next job. Live music! So fun, very enjoyable.

We saw a 2 person play, it was quite entertaining. Surprisingly 2 actors could be so entertaining. Easy to follow story. I would go back.

My husband and I have been to a few performances at this theatre, and it's always fun. I'm a theatre enthusiast, so I especially like the size of the seating area. Every seat seems close to the stage, similar to "The Other Place" in England's Stratford-upon-Avon.The building is older, a little dark in the lobby, and informal. Some may interpret that as "untidy," but I prefer it. I can attend a show in jeans and comfortable clothes, and not feel hideously under-dressed. The theatre's relaxed style carries through to the performance hall itself. I'm reminded of the early days of Harvard's Loeb Theater, when the informality and very modern styling reminded me I was about to see a very original presentation.Portsmouth's Music Hall is more formal and offers bigger names. It may be a more reliable choice for guests who want a "sure thing" with broad appeal.Seacoast Repertory Theatre isn't the Music Hall, and it doesn't try to be Music Hall "lite," either. It offers something different... sometimes offbeat. If you like fresh, high-quality performances, innovative presentations, and seating that's guaranteed to make you feel as if you could (almost) reach out and touch the stage, get tickets for any Seacoast Repertory show that sounds appealing.Expect entertainment -- from old favorites, revisited, to experimental works -- in an informal, cozy setting, and you won't be disappointed.

We made a return visit to this theatre after a ten year break. We we very disappointed at what met us at the front door. The theatre is very run down and the front hallway was a mess. This used to be such a nice place to visit. As for what was on stage, Godspell, a rather outdated production. There are many many other great theatrical productions available to select to present to an audience so why choose an out of date seventies musical?I am sorry but we will not be making another return visit to this theatre unless it is tidied up, makes a good impression at the front hall and has a decent production.

and that is .. A wonderful evening of entertainment at the Seacoast Rep Theater! We have been coming to shows at the Rep since 2007. We make the 2-hour trip at least twice a year and have never been disappointed or let down. The actors/actresses are amazing! Its great seeing local talent shine, We normally see musicals, (Damn Yankees, Gypsy, Steamed Heat, Rocky Horror, Hair, 8-track, etc), but have also been impressed with the dramas (Women in Black) and comedy (A Christmas Story). The passion emoted by the line-up never fails to put a smile on your face! The sets are simple, but effective. Seating is intimate (a few hundred) and is a steep stadium style setup, so even someone with a 10-gallon hat or bouffant hair-do won't block your view. All ages attend based on the performance (generation X an Y for Rocky Horror), My generation (Baby boomers) for Hair, 8-Track. The box-office staff as well as bar-tenders and ticket takers enjoy their jobs and extend the feel-good atmosphere. They have given the lobby a much needed remodel in recent years -- but they could benefit from a benefactor who could make it more even more comfortable. Godspell and Wizard of Oz are up next -- we'll be back for at least a 3rd visit this year. Prescott Park and dozens of excellent restaurants are within a few blocks!

A friend and I came here to see "8 Track: Sounds of the 70's" recently. It is a musical review of popular music from the 1970's, complete with platform shoes, bell-bottom pants and flower power. The theater itself is intimate and is built on multi-levels, giving every patron an unobstructed view... though it can be tricky to navigate the steep stairs. Since I've been here last, the theater lobby has been renovated and expanded, including an outdoor seating area. Bathrooms were not the cleanest, but were acceptable. There's a small box office and a bar where you can order drinks.... and a water bubbler. Every staff person or volunteer we interacted with was very pleasant... and we had great seats for the show. The audience was made up mostly of boomers, which one would expect of this particular production. The small theater was about 2/3 full and was air conditioned on this hot summer day. "8 Track" is a romp down memory lane: a potpourri of many of the tunes made famous from the 1970's, including several disco tracks. The four actors/singers: Craig Faulkner (also the Director), Christine Dulong, John James Pirroni, and Lauren Monteleone were excellent. Each possessed a superb singing voice.... though I was less impressed with the womens' duets than with other combinations. Their voices... while very good... just didn't seem to always come together as well. However, overall we were impressed: not only with the memorization of music and lyrics, but also with the dance/movement/acting thrown-in; the lighting, soundtracks, scene editing, chemistry between the actors, as well as the costumes. We also noted how poised the actors seemed considering the substantial amount of energy it must have taken to sing and perform amidst costume changes and constant movement on and off stage. Also, none of them were alive in the 1970's... so we know they had to learn and familiarize themselves with the 50 or so songs they performed- and they got it right. In the past I've seen other shows at SeaCoast Rep including "A Chorus Line," "How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying," and "Rocky Horror Picture Show," among others. This one rated right up there with the best. I will surely return for excellent semi-professional theater here in the heart of Portsmouth.

this is a very small theater, so all the seats are good ones. Be careful if you are lucky enough to sit in the first row, not to knock over a prop like I did, talk about turning red. We can't wait to visit again

I hadn't been to a show at Seacoast Rep for several years, but I was happy that I made the drive from Massachusetts last weekend. I thoroughly enjoyed seeing Pirates of Penzance. They have talented and enthusiastic cast that provided a delightful show. The singing and acting were strong throughout the show. Everyone on stage looked as though they were having a good time and happy to be spending their afternoon with us.Seacoast Rep is a small theater with an unusual seating design which surrounds three sides of the stage. It's a small stage so you get an up close theater experience from wherever you are sitting. Ticket prices are surprisingly low, which I guess excuses the fact that they ask for donations at the end of the show. The prices for refreshments are quite reasonable too. The only drawback that I can think if is the lack of parking nearby the theater. There is a public parking garage a few blocks away so you just have to plan ahead and allow time to walk from the garage to the theater.I might head back to Portsmouth to see another show this season ~ they have a strong series this year!

Seacoast Repertory Theatre is a small hole in the wall kind of venue. Don't let that fool you. It's small strategic seating capacity clustered around a small Stage, makes for a very up close theater experience. I've seen plays like "42nd Street", "Sweeney Todd", and most recently, "Hair". I have yet to be disappointed by any of this theater's productions. In fact, the actors are versatile, top-notch, performers.

My husband and I saw "A Christmas Story" at the Seacoast Rep in November. The acting was great, including some very talented children, the scenery worked as did the special effects. Well worth the time and money.

Seacoast Rep is a jewel in Portsmouth. Production quality is consistently high, variety of offerings is strong and a dedicated staff makes seeing a production something you'll remember. It's located on the river bank right downtown in historic Portsmouth. Extraordinary restaurants are nearby and pubs for after the show are everywhere.

Hubby and I stayed at the Ale House which is up above this quaint theatre and received complimentary tickets to the show. The play The Odd Couple is running until November 10th. We had great seats, I actually don't think there is a bad seat in the house as it is well laid out. We were able to purchase a beverage before the start and bring it inside the theatre in a plastic cup. We really enjoyed the play and this cast did an awesome job of bringing their individual characters to life. We look forward to visiting this theatre again in the future.

Portsmouth has an active arts community. The Saecoast Rep is a great place to see live theatre in an intimate setting. Treat yourself to dinner and a show this summer,

Recently saw a production of "Sweeney Todd" there. I can honestly say that there was not a weak actor in the cast of many. The theatre itself is very intimate and interesting. Will definitely return for another show!
