This is a fun sight-seeing and photo opportunity! It is within walking distance of the Runestone Museum and near a network of trails.

This is a great park with plenty of parking. It is situated right on the Central Lakes Trail and right next to Lake Agnes. This means you can walk with lovely views amid the trees and watch the wild life on the lake. It is quiet in spite of being right in town. The statue is fun to see and a wonderful picture taking opportunity!

Big Ole Viking Statue is right on the Central Lakes Trail and Lake Agnes. Park your car there and take the walk to City Park around the lake (couple medium hills so bring comfortable shoes) or a very short stroll to the Depot (drinks/dinning/patio) or to Runestone Museum or the variety of shops downtown on Broadway (Cafe: Brass Lantern). Take a picture with the whole family at the feet of the Viking. Colorful picnic areas and covered gazebos dedicated to local citizens a short walk east available to the public. Eldens Food Fair (grocery store) just a couple blocks to the east right across the street from the trail, but before you get to the tunnel if you forgot the mustard for your picnic or just want to grab a couple ice cream bars for dessert.

In Sept. 2014 went to Alex for a girlfriend weekend. Fun to see how the tiny town has grown & see old sights. Spent an afternoon at the Carlos Winery, which I highly recommend for adults. Only wish the "craft vendor barn" was open. Not sure why it wasn't. We plan to make it an annual event. Stayed at the Hampton Inn & Suites who treated us very well.

This is more than just a statue. It says "Birthplace of America" on his shield for a reason. Interesting story behind the viking Kensington Runestone. History buffs will love it.

If you're visiting Alexandria and like to take pics with mascots like this, it's a must stop! We always came here when I was a kid. Noonan Park is also fantastic for families! It's free, has a pond, bridge, picnic tables and usually visiting ducks. : )

It's a big ole Viking. Good to snap a few pictures! You can't miss it! It's located within walking distance of the Runestone Museum.

If you're in Alexandria with your camera, you simply have to stop by and see Big Ole. There is convenient parking. It's well worth 15 minutes, especially if the kids are with you--though teenage daughters might not be as enthusiastic as an eight year old boy.

We visited on Saturday, September 13, 2014. I have only seen this once before, over 50 years ago as a child. This is still a fun statue and is very well cared for. It sits on the shore of a pretty lake and there is ample space and time for pictures.

Right by the lake, near a little park, stands this giant statue. A great photo op. Once there, take the trail along the lake--it took us about 15 pleasant minutes to get to the park at the end.

Kids weren't too impressed with this statue but that's fine. We'll be back! But the was a great restaurant right next door to the big Viking it was called"The Depot Express", they had a wide variety of foods for all types of eaters, from burgers to crab legs, the place is right across the street from the lake, so the scenery was awesome. Try the foods you'll love it as we did.

We toured Alexandria with a group and Big Ole is a great spot for a group picture. It is conveniently located near the Runestone and Maritime museums. Unfortuantely, Ole recently lost one of his helmet horns and is in need of repair.

Well, it ranks up there with the Corn Palace and that big Jolly Green Giant down in Blue Earth and that big neon cowboy in Las Vegas but it is just hokey enough to be cool.
