just did a quick stop to drive down to the waters edge to view the power plant across the lake. Gave us a better appreciation for the power plant and the second lake at the top of the mountain. Also looked like some good hiking and a day use area including a large outdoor pool, soccer fields, basketball, etc.

We used to live in the Catskills and neither of us had ever been here before. Minekill State Park has a great deal to offer, an Olympic size pool, wading pool and a diving pool (which is no cost to campers with a valid camping permit). There are so many activities, in the summer one can learn to swim, go hiking or mountain biking on the 8 miles of trails within the park. Winter activities can include snowshoeing, cross-country skiing and snowmobiling. The thing not to miss is the namesake of the park, the Mine Kill Falls with the top of the fall starting underneath the Rt 30 bridge and it cascades 80 feet through a narrow gorge Mine Kill Falls for which the park is named. There is a separate parking area, 1/4 miles south of the parks' main entrance, that provides access to the overlook viewing platforms, as well as the Long Path hiking trail to the lower falls and beyond. The pictures are taken from the viewing platforms.
