newsom's old mill store

I spotted a young man hoisting a large country ham wrapped in linen over his shoulder and loading it onto a table in front of Newsom's, so I had to investigate. Tables with local produce lined the sidewalks. The building's facade looked like an old photograph. In a cool way.The merchandise in the general store ranged from heirloom seeds to country-store candy to local books and folk art and included some necessities for the locals, too. A deli counter of sorts was in service and a family was settling in for a sandwich lunch. The website gives a fair overview of the experience. My understanding is that their country ham is an international legend, although I took it in only visually. In my estimation, Newsom's is a MUST SEE attraction for this area. It's the kind of place I fear is being lost as our shopping, dining, and travel habits encourage the fast, easy, and dependable over the surprising, out of the way, and natural. Go to Newsom's. Really. Go.
