The two of us visited the Bridgeport Railroad Depot Museum. The rooms include many historic objects from the city and local area, including pictures of its famous citizens and buildings. The city was a strategic location during the Civil War because of its position overlooking the Tennessee River. The museum staff was extremely helpful. We look forward to returning.

In the heyday of railroading, the depot at Bridgeport sat at the intersection of the Southern Railway(now Norfolk Southern) and Nashville, Chattanooga & St. Louis Railway(then L&N and now CSX) mainlines, as well as the anchor point of the NC&StL's Sequatchie Valley line. Rail buffs will find much to like in the museum, but exhibits are more likely to interest those with historical ties to the community. The old depot has survived years of neglect and a tragic fire in the post-passenger era, but numerous dedicated volunteers have restored the structure to much of its original utility and collected enough quality artifacts to make for a most interesting visit.
