The architecture of this lovely over 100 year old church is truly distinctive. It is built to look like the country churches of Denmark. Continue your journey by walking inside. It is usually open during the daytime as it is part of the town's walking history tour. The sanctuary is very peaceful and beautiful. The altar is framed by two tall, narrow stained glass windows custom made by a local craftsman. The pulpit in the round is exquisitely carved. Be sure and walk up close to admire it. There is a model ship hanging from the ceiling. The wooden pews feel as though if they could only speak they would have many tales to tell of generations of locals and visitors alike who have come to visit and worship at this church. There is an incredible pipe organ here as well which is used from time to time and for special occasions. If you are in the area be sure and go in as visitors are always welcome. The weekly services are held Sundays at 9:30 AM. There is a nice coffee and refreshment time in the fellowship hall directly adjacent to the sanctuary immediately following the church service.

While in the museum of Elverhoj, I was smitten by the amazing wood carvings of Jes P Smidt. On one of the plaques, it mentioned that he had done most of the carving at Bethania Lutheran Church. Since it was so very close, we thought we would take a piece. WOW! Were we surprised!! The woodwork on the reredos and the alter box are outstanding examples of a master woodcarver. If you are into history and culture, this is a must see. I would caution you that is a church and to be sensitive of ceremony or services, but you'll be lucky if you get to take a peek.
