This was a bundled deal, ferry, buffet lunch and golf cart rental for the afternoon. We had a blast! Lots of wildlife including fox squirrels and alligators... BIG alligators!

I read the negative review of the tour and decided it all depends what you want. If you want to vacation in a place with manicured golf courses and walking trails, a variety of shops and nice restaurants, don't go to Daufuskie Island. Now, I am not against all that. I just happen to like variety and Daufuskie offers something completely different. It.s mostly hard packed dirt roads, it has a lot of foliage, there is a general store and one restaurant that we sa. Since it was November and I season, there was no band playing and boats pulling up as we understand occurs during the summer. But it was lovely and serene with a few golf carts and fewer cars on the roads. It does have a gorgeous pristine beach, but when we visited, it looked like the resort near the beach was being refurbished, so we had all that sand to ourselves and one other couple way down the beach. We happened to enjoy taking the noisy golf cart all over the island, peaking into people's yards--which if you drive up to Bloody Point takes you past huge beautiful private homes overlooking the ocean. We used the map and went to he historical sites yes viewed from the outsid but still interesting if you took the time to read the markets and poke around a bit, as we did reading markers at the old cemetery etc.We booked with Calibouge, and for $133 this is what the two of us received: round trip ferry (which would have been $34 each if bought alone, $45 by another service), $20 in food vouchers at the funky Crab company on the island which we used to buy a good lunch of the special devil crab and an oyster po boy and a couple of beers that came to a total of $24. (It was a quiet day so we ordered off menu, can't comment on the buffet that is the offering when a large group), and the use of the golf cart all day (which we just read would have been $30 per person). So we think the Calibouge tour was a reasonable price. Oh, they also gave us a CD with the history of the island. There was a CD player in the cart, but it was too noisy to listen to at tat time.We thought the $133 and the little extra we spent for lunch gave us a pleasant day in nature away from all the manicured Hilton Head.

This is worth a one time adventure. I think most of the negative comments could be from those that take a golf cart. We took the tour for the same price and I'm sure it was 10 times better. Seriously, ask any that did the golf course, where does John Mellencamp live or the story about the ghost in the Oyster Union Society building.

Booked this day trip a day before with Calibogue Cruises Tours & Adventures. The boat ride over on the boat - Calibogue - was rather nice. The weather was perfect, no sun/cloudy & breezy. The buffet at Old Daufuskie Crab Company consisted of baked chicken, sausages with onions, corn, mac and cheese, lima beans, rolls, banana pudding, choice of tea or lemonade for drink, watermelon, pasta salad, coleslaw...I expected seafood of some type on buffet but okay! Chicken was cold. Mac was flavorless. Tasty sausage and excellent banana pudding. Were told that the lunch vouchers were good for the buffet or could be used for $10 towards something else when booking... There were 4 in our party. 2 adults, 14 y.o. and 10 y.o. 1/2 wanted buffet. Other half wanted to use $10 voucher. Was told that the $10 voucher would have to be after the buffet ended at 2:00 once at restaurant. That made absoloutely no sense. So 2 meals were paid out of pocket at lunch and after touring the island, used the vouchers for appetizers. The golf carts run on gas, slow, and loud! It did have a radio though. The tour started off promising...we stopped at th Mt Carmel Baptist Church and Jane Hamilton School first. These were very informative and we were actually able to get inside. The map was a joke that was provided...not accurate and very hard to follow. Couldn't find several points of interest: Silver Dew Pottery, Undertakers House..the Bloody Point Lighthouse was marked as Private Residence! Majority of the other historical points that were found were locked. This tour was not worth $261 for 4 ppl! [$64 per person + $5.00 for parking.] Just not at all what was expected. Had I known what I know now, I most likely would have passed and went ziplining or parasailing...being this was our last day/night on Hilton Head Island, I would have preferred doing something more enjoyable and worth the money. Good chunk of money down the drain! Best part: boat ride!

My daughter and I too this trip together and loved every minute!! We went on a Sunday afternoon and the place was hopping! There was a band in the pavilion all afternoon right by the outdoor bar. We had a good fish sandwich then headed off on our golf cart for an adventure of finding the historical places, getting lost and laughing a lot!! We got back in time to relax and enjoy more music and watch the people dancing and having a great time. Then a nice ferry ride back to Hilton Head.

We went over to Daufuskie via the Calibougie Ferry-the only way anymore. First off, island itself is eerie. Second, half the shops and places you read about on line are out of business. Crab company's got a great outdoor bar and live music- that's it. Can buy random spartina bags in general store half off. To eat, go to Bloody Point or Marshland Mommas. Find the beach and stay there. Fantastic shelling, beautiful, pristine, and there's only like 2 of you on it! Golf courses are rebounding. Horseback riding won't return your call. It's definitely NOT what they are selling you.

Of course no one can control the weather, but we froze our butts off on the ferry trip over to Daufuski island and it was just as cold once there riding around on the golf cart. Speaking of the golf carts.....way over priced, I've rented new cars for a better rate than these slow well used carts. The map they give you is not at all accurate and even if I was there still isn't a whole lot to see. If I ever did this again I would take a bike over to ride around on the roads. But, I'll probably never do this again.

With a weather forecast of drizzle and wind, it was not going to be a beach day, so we opted to go on the self guilders golf cart tour. This included round trip tix via the broad creek marina, a 10 buck lunch voucher and a golf cart. Total cost 158. The boat trip was very nice. About an hour. When we got to daufuskie island we got a pretty used up golf cart and a map of the sites. We hit a few of the closer spots before lunch. With tautly the Gullah life style on the island we saw nothing of it. We had lunch which was ok.we then ventured out further on the island. We figured we would go to bloody point and the beach then putter back. Since the wind was high, ther was nobody at the beach and it was high tide so nobody else was there. While there are some buildings on the beach you do get the feeling nothing is on it We then went to a couple of tour spots , which ended up to just be locked up buildings with a marker in front of them. A highlight was a stop at a local potter. This was a highlight as we talked he told us about the history, as his grandfather had been on the island a hundred years ago. We mad a few purchases...and he is an artist so it is not bargin prices. We then went to the county dock and talked with some fisherman as they were pulling in a three foot shark. And we saw many dolphin close to the dock. Then back to the boat. Overall a pleasant day considering the weather. But it is not something I would say to a friend this was great and you have to do it. It was very low key, not very informative...other than the conversations we started. The island is also an example of the polarity of the classes. On this island you either have money or you don't.

This seemed like a good idea at the time but what a waste of time and money. 7 of us (two families) went for a short day tour. The captain was pleasant and informative. Most of the sites you see on the way over from Hilton Head are private or off limits when ou get there. We rented golf carts - 30.00 per person and chose to tour the island ourselves. Despite following the map, this island appeared to be deserted. Really pathetic and sad island. Nobody is helpful, carts barely drive 3-4 mph and there is nothing to do or see! When we went down road to "glass house" I thought we were in scene from Deliverance. We couldn't get Defauskie out of this place any quicker. Major disappointment and ripoff.

Booked to go out for a day trip from Harbourtown Hilton Head Island. Cost of round trip $29.50pp which was good value as it was a pleasant 30 minute boat trip both ways on a comfortable boat, saw plenty of wildlife - birds and dolphins. We elected to rent a golf buggy to explore Daufuskie at $30pp ($60 for a buggy). Buggy we got was a bit dilpatated and regularly backfired - speed nothing above about 4-5mph so it took quite a while to get around the island. The sights we visited were well signed and interesting. Only one place to get a coffee - by the ferry stop and that was only instant coffee at $2.50 a cup - expensive. The island is worth a visit but don't get the golf buggy. There is a guided bus tour - but we never saw the bus once whilst we were on our travels so not sure where it went. - cost for that was about $20 each. No restrooms anwhere on the island apart from in coffee shop at ferry.

Could be a beautiful location but is very poorly kept. We took the self-guided golf cart tour and followed the map closely. Some of the markers were difficult to find. A couple of spots, we never found (one of the graveyards). There were beer cans and trash all over the island. The place was in shambles. I wish I Had never gone. Wish someone who really cares about history would take over this place. It could be nice.

Been on the computer trying to learn how to get to the island for a day trip and how to see the island. No help from these guys or anyone else. Scrubbing from my travel plans while in the area unless we can hear something. Anything. Sounds great in the state travel brochures, but ??????

I've had the pleasure of taking Daufuskie Discoveries to and from our second home on Daufuskie many times. The guys always manage to work us into their schedules no matter how busy the season. Last weekend they managed to juggle more than 80 guests for my sister's wedding and everything turned out great. Through it all, Britt and crew are always friendly and extremely helpful. I look forward to my next trip.

Had we known how this trip was going to go we would never have purchased the groupon.. They give you the "run around" about scheduling in order to accomodate "paying" customers. We were told to be at the dock 15 minutes early. We stood at the pier in the hot sun because they were 45 minutes late. There were no signs, and we kept having to ask one of the guys at the marina if they were coming and whether or not we were in the right place. When we got to the island, the boat captain told us to walk down to the end of the pier and wait for someone. After about 20 minutes of waiting once again in the hot sun, another guy came down and told us that he had pulled our golf cart up to the top of the pier. We were sooo frustrated. During this entire time, not one person identified himself as a Daufuskie Discoveries employee. If you do schedule with this company, be prepared for them to call you to reschedule a different time after you have booked.
